Developers Breaking Climate Emergency Pledge

The new houses at the old stables on Saltburn Road are not only destroying what remains of the gap between Marske and Saltburn. They could be destroying the planet as there appear to be no solar panels being installed.

The Conservatives scrapped the obligation of all new builds to have solar panels in 2015. In fact energy independence policy has taken a big step back with turbine bans added to the mix.

No solar panels means:

  1. More carbon production adding carbon to the atmosphere compounding climate change;

  2. More reliance on gas in energy production - potentially fuelling Putin's war;

  3. Putting house buyers at the mercy of high electric bills - with multinationals like Shell and BP picking up bumper profits;

  4. Redistribution of wealth from the middle to the billionaires.

So my proposal is a 75% solar panel roof space policy at local level for all new builds - and the immediate ban of any new gas boiler installation in a new build.

Another proposal is a local energy cooperative. So local people finance turbines locally - which heavily discount local energy bills. Like is being done in Wales.
